The idea of EHD
"European Heritage Days” is the largest and the most important cultural feast in Europe. It aims to promote social and cultural sights of the Old Continent. The idea was born on 3rd October 1985 in Granada, Spain, during the Second Conference of the Council of Europe, on which the Minister of Culture of France proposed to organize Heritage open Days. Heritage open Days were launched in France in 1984. Then for the first time historical facilities, to which access has been limited so far, were opened to public free of charge. Initiative attracted so much interest, that in 1991, inspired the Council of Europe to establish European Heritage Days.
